Modular Dormitory Accommodation. The Scots College

When The Scots College required additional residential facilities at its Glengarry Campus, the challenge was to deliver a modular accommodation solution that provided comfort, functionality, and minimal disruption to the existing environment. A modular dormitory was selected as the most effective approach, enabling rapid installation and long-term performance.

Flexible Structure Built for Purpose

The dormitory, measuring 10.00m x 45.00m x 4.20m, was designed to meet the needs of both staff and students. Its modular construction allowed for efficient delivery while ensuring a high standard of comfort and usability.

Key Modular Accommodation Features Included:

  • Dedicated staff accommodation spaces.

  • Kitchen and laundry pods for extended residential use.

  • Nine toilet and shower pods providing private amenities.

  • Open-air verandas designed for outdoor study and relaxation.

  • Thermo roof with pumps for insulation and climate control.

  • Insulated sandwich panel walls for durability and energy efficiency.

Designed with Durability and Minimal Impact

A core priority of the project was to deliver a high-performance modular accommodation facility that blended seamlessly into the campus environment. With its low-profile façade and aluminium cladding, the building maintained harmony with the surrounding landscape while delivering modern residential functionality.

The off-site modular construction method reduced on-site building activity, ensuring minimal disruption to school operations, an important consideration for an active learning environment.

A Model for Modular Campus Living

The Scots College dormitory demonstrates how modular structures can provide fast, flexible, and sustainable accommodation solutions for educational institutions. By combining durability, aesthetics, and efficient delivery, the project shows how modular systems can support urgent infrastructure needs while maintaining quality and design integrity.
